Freestyle Motocross (FMX) newcomer Mark Monea, has stunned the action sports world by landing his signature front-flip variation, in front of jam packed Sam Boyd Stadium yesterday.

 Monea, who has never landed the trick in a competition setting before, did so with seeming ease, despite admittedly being very nervous in the event lead up.

“I was really nervous all day leading up to this. I put a lot of pressure on myself to land this trick here tonight, but when it came everything went right. I’d like to thank everyone who helped me get here today and my family for all their support – I’m just so relieved and excited!” Mark Monea said.

The inaugural Monster Energy Cup, was a motocross/supercross hybrid event on a man made race track inside and around Sam Boyd Stadium. The Freestyle Motocross ‘Best Trick’ event were a one jump, one trick opportunity for the best in the business to challenge for a ‘winner takes all’ $40,000 prize purse.

"This is not only the largest amount of money I have ever won, it's the ONLY money that I have ever won in freestyle motocross!"

Monea, a long time motocross racer, worked previously as fellow rider Cam Sinclair’s mechanic in 2009. Only this year, did he decide to turn his hand to competition with this weekends event only his second ever. The event was screened LIVE across the USA via SPEED.

Monea’s next performance is scheduled for November 19, in Genoa, Italy.
